After six seasons, McMann has returned to the CFL's Calgary Stampeders as a receivers coach. Wolfe, who has an 83-63 coaching record over his previous 19 years at Acadia, returns to his alma mater, where he played briefly and began his coaching odyssey. The Redmen are coming off a 4-4 fourth-place finish in the Quebec conference and a lopsided 52-0 playoff loss against Laval (7-1), who went on to capture the Vanier Cup. McGill, which appears to have a more favourable schedule in 2007, meets perennial powerhouses Laval and Montreal only once apiece. They will play Concordia and Sherbrooke twice each, with single games scheduled against Bishop's and Acadia. The 2007 Redmen training camp features 49 returnees, including 20 seniors, 13 juniors and 16 sophomores, in addition to 24 freshmen. McGill should be a solid contender as the team has lost only four starters (R Greg Hetherington, RB Michael Samman, LB Maxime Gagnon, LB Mike Tzimas), plus kicker Robert Eeuwes.. "I expect big things from our offence as it is fairly intact and features a good mix of high-level athletic ability combined with veteran leadership," says Wolfe. " We have a veteran o-line with good size. They will provide good protection for Matt Connell, who is as good a quarterback as I have seen in my 20 years of CIS football. УWhile our defensive unit is young, we do have 10 returning starters and should be much improved." Senior QB Matt Connell, a 6-foot, 225-pound pivot from St. Bruno, Que., was a conference all-star in his freshman year. He has passed for a McGill all-time record of 35 touchdowns in 20 career games and is in position to break most school and conference passing records. аIn 2006, Connell became the first quarterback in McGill history to break the 2,000-yard passing barrier in a season. аHe led the league with an average of 306.6 passing yards per game, completing 173 of 283 attempts for 2,146 yards, a 61.1 completion ratio, 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in seven contests. He also rushed 21 times for 102 yards and three TDs. Connell will be backed with a veteran offensive line that is bolstered by the return of senior Ben Walsh, a two-time all-Canadian right guard from Vancouver, B.C., who measures 6-foot-1 and 292 pounds. Other returning starters include senior left tackle Louis Nolin (6-2, 278) of Montreal, junior left guard Jordan Knowles (6-2, 304) of Richmond, B.C., sophomore C Paul Reinlein (6-0, 278) of CЇte St. Luc, Que., who started every game in his freshman year and senior right tackle Allan Kellogg (6-4, 283) of Pebble Beach, Calif. One blue-chip recruit to keep an eye on is Scotty Giroux, a 6-foot-6, 360-pound specimen, who toiled for Centennial Secondary in Belleville, Ont. Although the Redmen have lost all-Canadian slotback Greg Hetherington to the CFL's Calgary Stampeders, the receiving corps is exceptionally deep with the return of seniors SB Erik Galas, SB Matt Adonna, WR Tim Kraemer and speedy sophomore wide-out Charles-Antoine Sinotte. Last year, Galas led the conference with 43 receptions and was third in reception yardage (487). He also led the league in receiving TDs with five. аSinotte, a big-play wide-out who earned the teamТs rookie-of-the-year awrd, ranked fifth among league leaders in both receptions (28) and touchdowns (3). He was seventh in reception yardage (430). With Connell's high-profile passing game, the running attack was somewhat underused last year. However, McGill's corps of running backs is deep with 13 players in camp competing for a starting role. Among the candidates for fullback is senior Richard Godin (5-7, 223) of Montreal, junior Pardeep Beesla (5-8, 238) of Vancouver and freshman David Friedman (5-9, 225) of Westmount, Que., who played for St. Paul's Academy, a U.S. prep school last year. At tailback, the leading candidates include senior Alex Bussandri (5-9, 196) of Westmount, plus sophomores Chris Hayes (6-0, 205) of Winnipeg, Man., and Jeff Boudreau (6-1, 185) of Ottawa. аAnother freshman to look for is Simon Bergeron (5-7, 183) of Longueuil, Que., who played for College Vieux-Montrщal. The only question mark on offence is how the Redmen kicking game will fare with junior Charles Vescio, an untested newcomer from LaSalle, Que., with a background in rugby and soccer. Others who may end up sharing the punting chores include Connell, Sinotte and Galas. On defence, McGill struggled against the run last year but led the league in defending the pass, averaging only 126.4 yards against per game. How much the run defence has improved should make or break the season for McGill. The defensive line is anchored by senior DT Luke van Ruyven (6-7, 246) of Port Colborne, Ont., senior RE Marc-Andrщ Paquin (5-11, 256) of Vaudreuil, Que., senior DT Jonathan Bower (6-4, 255) of Calgary and junior RE Rob Legate (6'4", 250) of Burlington, Ont. Sophomore Peter Gillespie (5-11, 296) of Port Hope, Ont., may see significant playing time and one freshman expected to make an impact is Ben Thompson, a 6-foot-2, 267-pound tackle from the Fredericton high school Black Kats. The linebacking corps features four players who are all expected to have a breakout year. Returning starters include senior Jean-Nicolas Carriшre (6-2, 228) of Ottawa, who was credited with 31.5 tackles, three QB sacks, two knockdowns and one interception in seven games. Also back is 6-foot-1, 216-pound junior Matt Sroka (26.5 tackles, 2 for loss, 3 knockdowns) from Vancouver. Others in the mix who are coming off injury-plagued seasons are 6-foot, 213-pound senior David Riendeau (18 tackles, 1 fumble recovery) of Montreal and senior Kevin Nanne (6-3, 233) of Sault Ste. Marie. One freshman that may crack the lineup is 6-foot, 217-pound Adam Ginzburg, a Pierrefonds, Que., native who played for Vanier College. The defensive backfield is intact, strong and very physical, led by junior halfback Anthony Lucka (32.5 tackles, 4 INTs, 1 knockdown, 1 fumble recovery) of St. Laurent, Que., junior halfback Louis-Pierre Clщment (33 tackles, 1 fumble recovery) of Dorval, Que., sophomore David Biggar of Toronto and safety Kamaal Hicks, a junior from St. Hubert, Que. Fighting for a starting spot at corner back are junior Maxime Beaulac of Laval, junior Greg Landry of North Vancouver and Schuyler O'Brien, a sophomore who excels on special teams and earned a starting role in his freshman year. $st·їьїщCJ5Б>*CJ\БaJCJaJ 5Б\БaJt¤t¤,1Рh░╨/ ░р=!░"░#Ра$Ра%░░─░─ Р─ i8@ё 8 NormalCJ_HaJmH sH tH <A@Є б< Default Paragraph Fontt*    vШ0ААttt▓╗┴╔hnПХкп╕┬АЖ╞╨ &*0FL| Ї № Н Т 4 : R Z t y В М ъ Ё /6╜└═╘ПФ┤╗╝┬ПШR[╕╛ъЁДЛп╡юЇ doщёЭв;CБЖ╟═шЁКПбе·CI`f─╩╦╥v╚╤LNь Ў сщv33333азv  CISO\\Server01\Company\Files-Michel\Football\2007\Previews\Team previews\McGill.doc @Аss▄╟ sstP@  Unknown            GРЗz А Times New Roman5РАSymbol3&Р Зz А Arial"qИЁ╨hQ┬╕жf┬╕ж°г 0!Ёа┤┤ББ20╠2ГЁ  ?2007 McGILL UNIVERSITY REDMEN FOOTBALL OUTLOOK FOR 127th SEASONCISCIS■ рЕЯЄ∙OhлС+'│┘0ШРШрь° ,8 T ` lxАИРф@2007 McGILL UNIVERSITY REDMEN FOOTBALL OUTLOOK FOR 127th SEASONCISNormalCIS2Microsoft Word 9.0@F├#@.┤ Qц╟@ь╕№Sц╟°г■ ╒═╒Ь.УЧ+,∙о0( hp|ДМФ Ьдм┤ ╝ фCIS0 ╠# @2007 McGILL UNIVERSITY REDMEN FOOTBALL OUTLOOK FOR 127th SEASON Title ■   ■    !"#$%■   '()*+,-■   ¤   0■   ■   ■                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       Root Entry         └FP╤ИTц╟2А1Table            WordDocument        .*SummaryInformation(    DocumentSummaryInformation8            &CompObj    jObjectPool            P╤ИTц╟P╤ИTц╟            ■                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           ■       └FMicrosoft Word Document MSWordDocWord.Document.8Ї9▓qRoot Entry         └F№┼Tц╟8@1Table            WordDocument        .*SummaryInformation(     ■   ■    !"#$%■                                                       7¤   ■   ■   ■   6                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            ■   ■                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               $А,░ DocumentSummaryInformation8            аCompObj    jObjectPool            P╤ИTц╟P╤ИTц╟            ■       └FMicrosoft Word Document MSWordDocWord.Document.8Ї9▓q■ ╒═╒Ь.УЧ+,∙оD╒═╒Ь.УЧ+,∙оl( hp|ДМФ Ьдм┤ ╝ фCIS0 ╠# @2007 McGILL UNIVERSITY REDMEN FOOTBALL OUTLOOK FOR 127th SEASON Title4
