General Write-Up: The 07 season was a tough one for the Axemen. After losing a solid nucleus of seasoned veterans including All Star QB Chris Judd, and All Canadians Ivan Birungi and Steve Faoro the Axemen depth took another serious hit when they were riddled throughout the season with injuries. The Axemen turned to a number of young up and coming players to fill these voids. These young 18 and 19 year old players were thrown into an adverse situation and many have proven themselves as players who will be very successful in the years to come. The 07 season while being rocky at times was highlighted by some excellent performances. FS Elliott Richardson was the field general for the Axemen D, led the conference in tackles and was voted to the All Canadian team. In Week 3 of the season the Axemen offence proved how prolific it could be. QB Kieth Lockwood threw for an AUS record 36 completions and his 456 passing yards ranks 3rd in the conference all-time record books. The bar has been set high for the Axemen in 08. The team looks to build on what Coach Cummins believes is the best off season strength and conditioning results we have had at Acadia The Axemen return a plethora of starters on both sides of the ball to go along with a highly touted recruiting class which will bring 37 new faces to Wolfville. All Canadian Punter/Kicker James Michener also returns to lead the Special Teams units. The Axemen are on the path to be very strong in all 3 aspects of the game. With the combination of seasoned veteran players and a core of young talent the Axemen expect to be back in the hunt for a 3rd AUS title in 4 years. Quote from head coach: Last year we had a great opportunity to give our young players valuable game experience. In 08 behind the leadership of proven All Canadians Adam Rogers, Matt Carter, and Elliot Richardson we hope return to our championship ways of the 05 and 06 seasons.
