Coach Kreiner signs new contract with Lakehead

Jon Kreiner - Lakehead

THUNDER BAY, Ont. - Lakehead Athletics Director Tom Warden is very pleased to announce the signing of Thunderwolves Women's Basketball Head Coach Jon Kreiner to a multi-year contract.

Warden said Kreiner has made the Wolves a playoff contender and believes he will continue to build upon that success. "Jon's services are secured and I have been very happy with his results with women's basketball and his work in the community and I am looking forward to strong results in the future."

Jon Kreiner said he was happy to be continuing his Lakehead coaching career. "I feel very privileged and honoured to be offered a five year contract extension by Tom Warden to coach the Thunderwolves Women's Basketball Team. Tom has been very supportive of women's basketball and myself in particular and it is gratifying to know my hard work is appreciated. I would like to thank Lou Pero for mentoring me. Together we have put together a very competitive, self-sustaining program that is built on hard working, strong academic student-athletes who are all strong character people. I have always prided myself on being an 'attention to detail' coach and that is a reflection of the coaching I received in both high school with legendary coach Hugh Meyer and in university with now UVIC athletic director Clint Hamilton. I look forward to continuing the process of building a nationally competitive program and to develop a strong grassroots program in Thunder Bay."

Kreiner has an OUA record of 81 wins and 119 losses in six seasons of OUA play as Lakehead head coach. This season the Wolves qualified for the OUA playoffs and had two players named OUA All Stars. This Spring Kreiner has already welcomed two strong recruits in Corina Bruni and Laura Gini as he continues to build the Wolves into a contender.
