ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - Brock University Director of Athletics Dr. Lorne Adams is pleased to announce Si Khounviseth as the interim head coach of the Brock women's basketball program. For the past three seasons, Si has been the assistant coach under Chris Critelli who retired from coaching after 27 years.
"We are pleased to have Si step up to the head coach position," said Director of Athletics Dr. Lorne Adams. "He knows the players, knows the league and is well qualified to develop this young team. His energy, enthusiasm and commitment will be infectious. I look forward to watching him and the team grow and develop."
"I am real excited about having the opportunity to take over as the head coach of the Brock program," said Khounviseth. "Chris has been a mentor to me over the past three years. I want to carry on that tradition and success that this program has enjoyed. I look forward to becoming part of the Badgers family."
Si has been a head coach with the Hamilton Transway basketball club for eight years. During that time, he led his teams to three OBA championship titles and one silver medal.
At the high school level, Khounviseth served as an assistant coach with the St. Mary's Senior Girls team in 2004 who captured an OFSAA 'AAAA' silver. He also coached the St. Mary's Junior Girls to consecutive city championships in 2002 and 2003.
"I feel great about leaving the coaching ranks knowing Si will be the interim coach", said former head coach Chris Critelli. "Besides having a great passion for the game, he brings with him two extremely strong qualities, he is competitive and more importantly, he is a good person. One needs to be competitive to get out there and recruit prospective student athletes, scout the opponent and commit to excellence on the court. However understanding people, developing his players into fine citizens while teaching life skills, will be part of his game plan."
