Exhibition: Saskatchewan wins Darcel Wright Memorial Classic

TORONTO - After an even game through three quarters, the Saskatchewan Huskies used a strong fourth quarter and a late 7-0 run to pull away from the Calgary Dinos for a 79-65 win in the championship final of the Darcel Wright Memorial Classic at Ryerson University on Sunday.

Jillian Humbert (Saskatoon, Sask.), who was named tournament MVP, led the way for Saskatchewan offensively, netting 25 points in the win. Kimberley Tulloch (Regina, Sask.) also had a solid game, scoring 17 points while Lauren Whyte (Nanaimo, B.C.) added 11 points in the win.

Calgary had two players scoring in double digits with tournament all-star Tamara Jarrett (Calgary) and Katie Beard (Sherwood Park, Alta.) both netting 14 points in the loss. Robyn Gibson (Spruce Grove, Alta.) grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.

Saskatchewan out-shot Calgary 44.6 percent to 39.7 percent from the floor and 34.8 percent to 26.1 percent from three-point range. The Huskies also out-rebounded Calgary 34 to 31 and won the turnover battle 25-24.

Saskatchewan is the Darcel Wright Memorial Classic champions after three consecutive wins against Western, Laval, and Calgary.
