Redmen wrap up European tour with 4-2 win over UTE

Guillaume Demers McGill
BUDAPEST, Hungary - Defenceman Yan Turcotte of Laval, Que., and rookie Simon Marcotte of Longueuil, Que., each scored once and set up another as the McGill Redmen defeated Ujpesti Torna Egylet, a pro Hungarian hockey team more commonly known as UTE, 4-2 in Budapest, Friday. Eric L'Italien of Ste. Foy and Toronto native Ben Gazdic also scored for the Redmen, who finished second of four teams with a 3-1 record at the Vojvodina International Celebration of Hockey Tournament, co-hosted by Serbia and Hungary. McGill spent much of the game in the penalty box but snuffed out nine of 10 shorthanded situations. Jan Zlocha and Akos Berta each scored for UTE, which held a 30-25 advantage in shots. Jean-Michel Filiatrault, making his first start since suffering a knee injury on Oct. 19, made 28 saves for the win. GAME NOTES: For the second straight day, both head coaches agreed to have a shootout after the game, regardless of the result? It took eight shots before UTE finally won the shootout 1-0 on a goal by Daniel Mracka? McGill players who participated in the shootout but failed to score included Guillaume Doucet, Vincent Lambert, Ken Morin and Chris Churchill-Smith.
