CIS VALUES 1. Quality educational and athletic experience. An environment which provides for the achievement of the academic and athletic potential of the participant. 2. Unity of purpose, respect for autonomy. CIS will respect and accept the priorities and objectives of each of its Members while working together towards common goals. 3. Integrity and Fair Play. Behavior which reflects the spirit of the rules; respect for the opponents honesty. The focus is on principled behavior rather than on random action. 4. Trust and mutual respect. Members will avoid sole reliance on written rules and contracts to govern the relationships between and among Member institutions. 5. Equity and equality of experience. The needs of all CIS Members, their representatives and program participants are addressed through the decision-making processes, through progressive action, through program development and delivery and through CIS’s organizational structure. CIS VISION CIS is the destination of choice for Canadian student-athletes to pursue excellence in academics and athletics. CIS is recognized as one of the influential leaders in sport in Canada. STRATEGIC DIRECTIONS Sport Development Objectives Work with universities and NSO partners to develop and deliver quality competitions and programs, such that Canada is a destination of choice for student-athletes and coaches. Contribute to the development and recognition of coaches. Contribute to the Canadian sport system, and the Canadian Sport Policy. Marketing / Branding / Communication / Advocacy Objectives Generate multi-media coverage and financial resources in order to sustain and grow CIS. Promote and celebrate the values and achievements of student-athletes and university sport heroes. Raise the profile of CIS such that it is recognized as a destination of choice for student-athletes. Tell the story of the impact and contribution of university sport to the sport community and the university community. Undertake initiatives to get more fans in the stands. x-i Governance and Operations Ensure that policy making and operations are being informed by accurate and up to date research, and contribute to CIS becoming a destination of choice. Continually review and improve upon business processes to ensure that CIS operates in the most efficient and effective manner consistent with its values. Create a shift in culture so that CIS can more efficiently and effectively deliver on its strategic plan, and can become a destination of choice. Review all aspects of spending to see where savings can be derived. Develop and strengthen strategic partnerships to advance CIS objectives. CIS CONSTITUTIONAL OBJECTIVES Whereas a university athletic program must in fact as well as in theory never lose sight of values that are basic to a sound educational program, be it resolved that the following guidelines express the intent of CIS’s Constitutional Objectives: 1. To provide all Members with a medium for discussion of issues of common interest. 2. To encourage, reflect and interpret to the Canadian public the achievement of excellence through the highest possible ethical standards of equity and fair play. 3. To encourage and/or coordinate inter-association competition and national championships and to develop international competition. 4. To encourage, reflect and interpret to the Canadian public the highest possible standard of excellence in sport in an educational context. 5. To publish and disseminate information concerning association, national and international interuniversity athletic activity. 6. To enter into agreements with other sport bodies and government agencies, in cases where it may be deemed desirable. 7. To encourage its Members to provide leadership in the development of sport in the community. 8. To establish eligibility regulations under which all CIS and association competitions leading to Canadian Interuniversity Sport championships are conducted. 9. To approve such playing rules and codes as may be deemed suitable to govern interuniversity sport while taking into consideration the rules and regulations of other sport governing bodies. 10. To develop fund raising mechanisms to support the activities of CIS. 11. To exercise such powers and responsibilities as may be vested in CIS by the Members from time to time. 12. To provide leadership in the commitment to equity. Ten Point Plan for Making CIS Better: 1. Build Partnerships: CCAA and CIS. 2. Contribute to Long Term Athlete Development 3. Build the CIS Brand 4.
