Two former Huskies to play in Grey Cup

MONTREAL - The University of Saskatchewan Huskies will have representation in the 2008 Grey Cup.

Former football team members Paul Woldu and Scott Flory are on the roster of the Montreal Alouettes who will battle for the Grey Cup Sunday against the Calgary Stampeders.

Flory has played with Montreal since 1999. The offensive lineman was selected by Montreal in 1998 CFL draft in the third round, 15th overall. Flory played five seasons on the Huskies offensive line from 1994-98, winning two Vanier Cups with the team in 1996 and 1998.

The 6-4, 300 pound Regina native is the Eastern Conference nominee for lineman of the year. Gene Makowsky, who played with the Huskies from 1991-95, is the Western Conference nominee for the award.

Woldu played two seasons with the Huskies. He was named a CIS All-Canadian in 2007 after recording 18 tackles, one interception and five break-ups in the season. He joined the Huskies in time for the 2006 Vanier Cup run. He played a vital part in getting the Huskies to the championship on home turf after returning an interception for a touchdown in the Mitchell Bowl against the University of Ottawa GeeGees.

The 6-0, 170-pound defensive back was drafted by the Alouettes in the fifth round, 36th overall in April. He has tallied five tackles, 15 special team tackles and one interception in his CFL rookie season.

Woldu and Flory were just two of 11 former Huskies to play in the CFL in 2008. Others included: Jeff Piercey (Hamilton), Jordan Rempel (Hamilton), Dylan Barker (Hamilton - injured reserve), Jamie Boreham (Saskatchewan), Gene Makowsky (Saskatchewan), Kelly Bates (B.C.), Nathan Hoffart (Toronto), Chad Rempel (Toronto), Brian Guebert (Winnipeg) and Graeme Bell (Winnipeg).
