OTTAWA (CIS) - Toronto quarterback David Hamilton, Calgary cornerback Brett Ferguson and UBC kicker Shawn McIsaac are the Canadian Interuniversity Sport football players of the week for the period ending Sept. 13, 2008.

Hamilton, a fifth-year human biology student from Mississauga, Ont., had his best day as a Varsity Blue Saturday completing 22 of 32 passes for 465 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions as UofT beat York 58-7 to snap a 12-game losing streak against its cross-town rival and improve to 2-1 on the season for the first time since its Vanier Cup championship run of 1993. Hamilton's 465 passing yards rank second in team history behind Dan Feraday's 546-yard performance in his Hec Crighton Trophy-winning season of 1981, while 58 points was the Blues' best offensive outburst since a 63-21 win over Windsor in 1993.

Running backs Allistair Blair of Saint Mary's, Devon Mitchell Jr. of Concordia and Tyler O'Gorman of Saskatchwan were also up for the offensive award.

Ferguson, a second-year open studies student from Lethbridge, Alta., earned the nod on defence after he tied a team record with three interceptions, all in the fourth quarter, in a 17-11 Dinos win over provincial rival Alberta. The five-foot-11, 165-pound sophomore returned his first pick 52 yards for Calgary's only touchdown of the game early in the final frame, while his last interception at the Dinos' own four-yard with 2:34 left in the contest helped seal the victory.

Mount Allison lineman Scott Sheffer, Laval linebacker Nicolas Turmel and Queen's tackle Dee Sterling were also nominated.

McIsaac, an applied science major from Chilliwack, B.C., received the special teams award after he tied a Canada West single-game record with seven field goals in a 28-0 Thunderbirds win over reigning Vanier Cup champion Manitoba. The fifth-year senior was perfect on seven attempts hitting from 33, 14, 33, 27, 14, 27 and 43 yards to tie the conference mark set in 1996 by Saskatchewan's Matt Kellett, and come within two field goals of the CIS record established in 2006 by Concordia's Warren Kean.

Saint Mary's kicker Justin Palardy, Montreal kicker Pierre-Paul Gélinas and Guelph punter / kicker Rob Maver were also up for the distinction.
