THE PAC,
the new Physical
Activity Complex, is a state-of-the-art, showcase building that
opened in August 2003—and is the only facility on campus that
will service all 19,500 students, 4,500 faculty and staff, alumni,
and thousands from the community who participate in our Community
Programs. The building, favourably situated at a main entrance to
the University, is a landmark, a hub of activity, and home to the
Huskies – our celebrated athletics teams – who time
and again garner the media spotlight.
Funding for the structure was graciously provided by the Government
of Saskatchewan—$33 million. Themes of health and vitality
resonate throughout the building and are reflected in every aspect
of the structure’s design. Come inside our new three-storey,
greystone facility and be greeted by a spectacular climbing wall
that spans 40 feet and the building’s full three storeys opening
to a large stretch of skylight that floods the building’s
open spaces with an abundance of natural light. The wall, made of
rock-like panels, creates a stunning first impression with climbers
at various levels on the wall—a living work of art.
And, to meet the academic needs of students and faculty, The PAC
contains five classrooms, a lecture theatre and state-of-the-art
laboratories. All are constructed to the highest standards and frequented
by hundreds of students and distinguished faculty over the course
of the academic year.
The building bustles with people and activity as over 600,000 parents
and tots, professionals, families, kids, seniors, and of course,
students, faculty and staff frequent The PAC in the first year.
