| THE
BRONZE BABY
The Bronze Baby is awarded annually to the CIS Women's Basketball
Champions. The trophy dates back to 1922 when it was donated by the
Students' Council of McGill University. Until 1970, the Women's Interuniversity
Athletic Union (WIAU) in Quebec and Ontario awarded the Bronze Baby
to their conference championship basketball team. In 1971, the WIAU
was dissolved as a conference and the trophy was retired and returned
to the donor, McGill University. McGill students then offered "her"
to the Canadian Women's Interuniversity Athletic Union in June 1972.
The figure is a replica of a statue that was in
the grounds of Dunfermline College of Physical Education in Scotland
and is a copy of a trophy competed for by the High Schools of Dundee.
The winners of the trophy from 1923 until 1971 are recorded on the
old base at McGill University.

SYLVIA SWEENEY AWARD
The Award is
given to reward excellence in the student-athlete and is named in
honour of Sylvia Sweeney, a past basketball athlete of McGill, Concordia
and Laurentian University who excelled both on the court as well
as in the classroom. It She played on three Olympic teams and now
continues to support university basketball. The recipient of this
award will exhibit outstanding achievement in three areas: basketball,
academics and community involvement. Selection is made by the CIS

TRACY
MACLEOD AWARD
As a member of the Brandon Bobcats, Tracy MacLeod
broke her lower leg during a game in 1993. Five months after her
accident, and after numerous surgeries, she had her leg amputated
eight inches below the knee. Defying all odds, she was back on the
court less than three months later, playing with an artificial limb.
In honour of her determination, perseverence and unwaivering spirit
to continue playing the game she loved, the Women's Basketball Coaches
Association is pleased to honor Tracy by dedicating this award in
her name.
