Orr, a first-year NESA student from Lethbridge, Alta. was named tournament MVP after leading her hometown Pronghorns to their first Monilex Trophy as CIS rugby champions with a 15-10 win over tourney host Western in London, Ont., on Sunday. The 18-year-old scrum half, who was named Canada West rookie of the year this season, scored two tries over the weekend, including one in the gold-medal game, as the Horns, already bronze medalists in 2006, racked up three wins in four outings. It marked the first CIS title in a womens sport in Lethbridge history. Cape Breton soccer player Jessica MacDermid, McGill hockey player Charline Labont and Guelph field hockey player Jaclyn Buttersworth were also nominated for the womens award. Pogue, a third-year history student from Seaside, Oregon claims the honour on the mens after scoring four goals in two outings at the Canada West mens soccer Final Four, including both game winners, to lead the Spartans to their third straight conference banner. The 20-year-old forward, who led Canada West in scoring in the regular season with 10 goals, had all three TWU markers in a 3-0 semi-final win over defending national champion Alberta and found the back of the net in the 97th minute in a 2-1 overtime win over UBC in the title match. The Spartans aim for their first national crown this weekend in Vancouver (Nov. 8-11) after capturing CIS silver and bronze the past two years. Cape Breton soccer player Ricardo Marquez, Laval soccer player Boris Gervais Salou and Lakehead hockey player Chris Whitley were the other male nominees.
