Patzer, a third-year student from Lethbridge, Alta. scored the games only points in a 3-0 win over top-seeded Alberta in the Canada West final on Sunday to lead her hometown Pronghorns to their second straight conference title and a berth in next weeks CIS championship in London, Ont. (Nov. 2-4). The junior fullback, named a Canada West all-star from the third time in as many seasons this fall after claiming CIS player-of-the-year honours in 2006, also had a game-high 13 points on a pair of tries and a penalty kick in a 23-5 semi-final victory over UBC, on Friday. Dalhousie swimmer Lauren Dorrington, Montreal soccer player Nadge Akamse and Western field hockey player Michelle Weber were also nominated for the womens award. Gallo-Penich, a fifth-year student from Hamilton claims the honour on the mens side after posting back-to-back shutouts to allow the No. 9-ranked Capers (6-1-4) to regain sole possession of first place in the AUS standings with one weekend left in the regular season. The five-foot-11, 185-pound keeper and team captain, who is undefeated in his last 22 conference games for CBU, hlped the Capers blank StFX 2-0 last Wednesday and Memorial 3-0 on Sunday. Laval soccer player Boris Salou, Waterloo swimmer Oleg Chernukhin and Alberta hockey player Dylan Stanley were the other male nominees.
