Loewen, a second-year student from East St. Paul, Man., was exceptional in the first weekend of the Canada West womens volleyball regular season as she tallied 74 assists, 20 digs and 14 kills to lead the Bisons to a two-game road sweep of Regina. The 6-foot-3, 19-year-old setter, who was named CIS rookie of the year last season, had 39 assists, 12 digs and seven kills in a four-set win on Friday and added 35 helpers, eight digs and seven kills in a 3-0 victory on Saturday. Dalhousie swimmer Lauren Dorrington, McGill hockey player Ann-Sophie Bettez and Laurentian soccer player Jenna Roach were also nominated for the womens award. Tung, a kinesiology student from Toronto claimed eight gold medals in as many races, including five individual wins, to help the Tigers finish first in the mens standings at the UNB Amby Legere Invitational. The fifth-year senior won all four 50-metre individual events freestyle, backstroke, butterfly and breaststroke and the 100 individual medley and was part of three gold-medal relays, a performance that earned him a ticket for the CIS championship in February. Laval soccer player Samuel Georget, Wilfrid Laurier hockey player J.M. Rizk and Calgary soccer player J.P. Crescenzi were the other male nominees. Loewen, une tudiante de deuxime anne originaire de East St. Paul, Man., a t exceptionnelle lors du premier week-end de la saison rgulire de Canada-Ouest, rcoltant 74 assistances, 20 rcuprations en dfensive et 14 attaques marquantes pour mener les Bisons un balayage de deux matchs Regina. La passeure de 63 ge de 19 ans, nomme recrue de lanne de SIC la saison dernire, a amass 39 assistances, 12 rcuprations et sept attaques payantes vendredi lors dune victoire en quatre manches, puis a ajout 35 passes, huit rcuprations et sept attaques dcisives samedi dans un gain de 3-0. La nageuse Lauren Dorrington, de Dalhousie, la hockeyeuse Ann-Sophie Bettez, de McGill, et la joueuse de soccer Jenna Roach, de Laurentian, taient galement en lice du ct fminin.
