Small, a first-year arts student from Pickering, Ont. tallied six points in two outings to lead the No. 7 Gryphons to a pair of wins over nationally ranked opponents. The 18-year-old forward scored her first career hat trick last Wednesday in a 4-1 victory over reigning OUA champion and No. 5-ranked Laurier (2-1-0-0), and assisted on all three Gryphon goals in a 3-2 overtime win over No. 6 Toronto (3-0-0-1), on Sunday. Guelph (4-1-0-0) is tied for the OUA lead with Windsor (4-1-0-0) and York (4-1-0-0) after five games. UPEI rugby player Kaitlin Richard, Sherbrooke cross country runner Annie Riopel-Meunier and Alberta hockey player Jennifer Newton were also nominated for the womens award. Hroux, a third-year physical education student from Repentigny, Que. claims the honour on the mens side after scoring all three Patriote goals in a crucial 3-1 win over McGill, on Friday. With the victory UQTR (4-3-1) stands in third place in the Quebec conference standings, three points behind Laval (4-1-4) and Montreal (4-1-4), with one game in hand. Hroux, 22, leads the QSSF in scoring having tallied seven of the Patriotes eight goals so far this season. Moncton soccer player Antonio Mkary, RMC hockey player Mike Soros and Saskatchewan soccer player Evan Campbell were the other male nominees.
