Cotten, a third-year student from London, Ont., was named the outstanding female athlete of the meet at the CIS championships in Windsor after she collected three gold medals and led the Mustang women to a tie for third place in the team standings. Cotten defended her pentathlon title on Day 1 with a 3,687-point effort, edged defending champion Janine Polischuk of Regina by one centimetre in the long jump (5.72m vs. 5.71m) on Day 2, and led the Western 4x400m relay to victory on Day 3. Track and field athletes Celia Peters of Dalhousie and Genevive Thibault of Laval, and Manitoba hockey player Stacey Corfield were also nominated for the womens award. Turnbull, a fifth-year commerce student from Kingston, Ont., received the Jack Donohue trophy as tournament MVP at the CIS Final 8 after he led the top-seeded Ravens to their sixth W.P. McGee trophy win in seven years. The first-team all-Canadian guard, who ended his career with four CIS rings, was the top scorer in each of the three Carleton victories at Ottawas Scotiabank Place, tallying 23 points in a 94-57 quarterfinal victory over No. 8 StFX, 19 points including the game-winning shot at the buzzer in a 66-65 semifinal decision over No. 4 Western, and 22 points in an 87-77 gold-medal victory over No. 3 UBC. Track and field athletes Ueli Albert of Dalhousie, Ben Yousef Meit of Sherbrooke and Jim Steacy of Lethbridge were the other male nominees. Cotten, une tudiante de troisime anne originaire de London, Ont., a t nomme athlte fminine par excellence de la rencontre au terme des championnats de SIC qui se droulaient Windsor suite sa rcolte de trois mdailles dor et la troisime place des Mustangs au classement fminin par quipe. Cotten a dfendu avec succs son titre au pentathlon lors de la premire journe de comptition grce une performance de 3687 points, a battu la championne en titre Janine Polischuk de Regina par un centimtre au saut en longueur (5.72m vs 5.71m) lors du Jour 2, puis a men le relais 4x400m de Western la victoire lors de la journe de clture.
