Hutzler, a third-year general studies student from Napanee, Ont., was named tournament MVP at the CIS championship in Regina after she helped the top-seeded Clan capture their fourth Bronze Baby trophy in eight years with a 68-62 gold-medal win over the No. 2, hometown Cougars. The six-foot-two post averaged 11.7 points and nine rebounds per game as Simon Fraser defeated No. 8 Ottawa 89-42 on opening day, beat No. 4 Alberta 78-62 in the semi-final round, and came from behind to edge Regina in the title match in from of a standing-room-only crowd of 2,440. Hockey players Valrie Boisclair of Moncton, Vanessa Davidson of McGill and Tori Woods of Guelph were also nominated for the womens award. Farine, a third-year commerce student from Toronto, was chosen tournament MVP at the AUS championship in Halifax after he led the Tigers to their first conference title since 1995-96 and the second berth in team history in the CIS Final 8. The six-foot-two guard averaged 29.7 points per contest over the three-day competition including a career-high 45 points in an 88-85 quaterfinal victory over Acadia, 28 points in a 78-77 semi-final defeat of nationally ninth-ranked Cape Breton and a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double in a 72-60 gold-medal win over No. 5 and tournament-favourite StFX in front of 5,587 fans at the Metro Centre. McGill hockey player Kevin Desfosss, Ottawa basketball player Josh Gibson-Bascombe and Regina hockey player Adam Ward were the other male nominees. Hutzler, une tudiante de troisime anne en tudes gnrales originaire de Napanee, Ont., a t nomme joueuse par excellence du championnat de SIC aprs quelle eut aid le Clan, favori de la comptition, remporter un quatrime trophe Bronze Baby en huit ans grce une victoire de 68-62 aux dpens des Cougars de Regina lors de la finale canadienne dispute devant une salle comble de 2440 amateurs. La centre de 62 a conserv une moyenne de 11.7 points et neuf rebonds par rencontre alors que Simon Fraser disposait dOttawa (No. 8) par 89-42 au premier tour et de lAlberta (No. 4) par 78-62 en demi-finale, puis revenait de larrire pour vaincre lquipe organisatrice et deuxime favorite lors du match ultime.
