Richey, a second-year student from Roberts Creek, B.C., was named tournament MVP at the CIS womens volleyball championship in Fredericton after she helped the No. 2-seeded Thunderbirds become the first team since the 2001-02 Manitoba Bisons to repeat as national champions. The sophomore outside hitter guided UBC to a four-set win over No. 7 Moncton in the opening round, a 3-0 semi-final sweep of No. 6 Laval and was at her best in a five-set gold-medal victory over No. 4 Calgary leading all players on the court with 18 kills. Dalhousie track athlete Caroline Schlosser, Montreal volleyball player Laetitia Tchoualack and Windsor basketball player Alisa Wulff were also nominated for the womens award. Tremblay, a first-year arts student from Stoney Point, Ont., was named the outstanding male competitor at the CIS wrestling championships in Calgary after he captured individual gold in the 61-kilogram weight class and led the Concordia men to a bronze-medal finish in the team standings, up from seventh place in 2008. The five-foot-five freshman outscored his four opponents 39-3 at the national meet and defeated a pair of former CIS gold medalists on his way to the individual title, defending 61 kg champion CJ Hudson of Brock in the preliminary round and 2006 57 kg champion Raj Virdi of Simon Fraser in the final. Dalhousie track athlete Rob McCulloch, Windsor track athlete Jamie Adjetey-Nelson and Alberta volleyball player Joel Schmuland were the other male nominees. La jeune attaquante a men UBC un gain en quatre manches sur Moncton (No. 7) au premier tour et un balayage de 3-0 aux dpens de Laval (No. 6) en demi-finale, puis a t son meilleur lors dune victoire en cinq sets sur Calgary (No. 4) en finale, rcoltant 18 attaques marquantes, un sommet dans le match.
