Pierse, a fourth-year arts student from Edmonton was named CIS female swimmer of the year after she claimed seven medals in as many races, including five gold, broke four records and helped the Thunderbird women extend their record streak to 11 straight team banners at the CIS championships held at UBC this past weekend. The 24-year-old set Canadian records in the 100- and 200-metre breaststroke and a CIS championship mark in the 50m breast, added a fourth individual gold medal in the 200m medley, helped UBC establish a Canadian record in the 4 x 100m medley, and led the T-Birds to second-place finishes in the 4 x 100m and 4 x 200m freestyle relays. Her time of 2:23.50 in the 200m breast vaulted the Olympic hopeful into the top 10 in the world in the event. Dalhousie track and field athlete Alicia Dobranowski, UQTR swimmer Jennifer Carroll and Windsor track and field athlete Noelle Montcalm were also nominated for the womens award. Ng, a fourth-year arts student from Calgary also amassed seven medals in seven races at the CIS championships in Vancouver, including a clean sweep of the backstroke events, to earn his second CIS-male-swimmer-of-the-year award. The national team member, who was also honoured in 2005-06, won the 50-, 100- and 200-metre back, added bronze in the 100m butterfly and led the three UBC relays to silver medals as the T-Bird men finished second to Calgary in the team standings. Dalhousie track and field athlete Ueli Albert, Laval swimmer Nicolas Murray and Toronto swimmer Marco Monaco were the other male nominees. Pierse, une tudiante de quatrime anne en arts originaire dEdmonton a t nomme nageuse de lanne de SIC aprs avoir rcolt sept mdailles en autant dpreuves, dont cinq dor, fracass quatre records et aid la formation fminine des Thunderbirds porter 11 son record de bannires par quipe conscutives lors des championnats de SIC qui se droulaient ce week-end UBC. Lathlte de 24 ans a tabli des records canadiens aux 100 et 200 mtres brasse et une marque des championnats de SIC au 50m brasse, a ajout une quatrime victoire individuelle au 200m quatre nages, a aid UBC enregistrer un record canadien au relais 4 x 100m quatre nages, puis a men les T-Birds des deuximes places aux relais 4 x 100 et 4 x 200m libre. Son temps de 2:23.50 au 200m brasse a propuls lespoir olympique parmi les 10 meilleures au monde dans cette preuve. La nageuse Jennifer Carroll, de lUQTR, et les vedettes dathltisme Alicia Dobranowski, de Dalhousie, et Noelle Montcalm, de Windsor, taient galement en lice du ct fminin.
