Snow, a third-year science student from Sydney, N.S. was named tournament MVP after she helped her hometown Capers capture their first Gladys Bean Memorial Trophy as CIS womens soccer champions on home turf. The 20-year-old midfielder, who was named to the 2007 First All-Canadian Team prior to the tournament, was chosen player of the game as Cape Breton beat Ottawa 2-1 in the quarterfinal round, and also led the Capers to a 2-0 shutout of defending national champion UBC in the semis and a 2-1 win over OUA champion York in the gold-medal final. UQAM basketball player Cora Duval and cross country runners Lindsay Carson of Guelph and Paula Findlay of Alberta were also nominated for the womens award. Genest, a second-year kinesiology student from Lac-aux-Sables, Que. earns the honour on the mens side for the second time in three weeks after he claimed the individual title and led the Vert & Or to team bronze at the CIS cross country championship in Victoria. The 21-year-old, who was named CIS rookie of the year in 2006 following a silver-medal finish, stopped the clock at 31:40.3 at the end of the 10-kilometre race, edging Manitobas Kristjan Hunter (31:41.6) by just over one second and StFXs David Gerych (31:46.7) by six seconds. Hunter, Gerych and Ryerson basketball player Igor Bakovic were the other male nominees.
